Homemade Chocolate Cake Recipe
Ingredients:
Dry Ingredients:
1 and ¾ cups (220g) all-purpose flour
¾ cup (75g) unsweetened cocoa powder
2 cups (400g) granulated sugar
1 and ½ teaspoons baking powder
1 and ½ teaspoons baking soda
½ teaspoon salt
Wet Ingredients:
2 large eggs
1 cup (240ml) milk
½ cup (120ml) vegetable oil
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 cup (240ml) hot water (or hot coffee for richer flavor)
Instructions:
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch (23 cm) round cake pans.
In a large bowl, sift together the flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
Add the eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla to the dry ingredients. Mix well until the batter is smooth.
Carefully add the hot water (or coffee) and stir slowly until fully combined. The batter will be thin — that's okay!
Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans.
Bake for 30–35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then remove and place on wire racks to cool completely.
Optional: Chocolate Frosting
Ingredients:
½ cup (115g) butter, softened
⅔ cup (65g) cocoa powder
3 cups (360g) powdered sugar
⅓ cup (80ml) milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions:
Beat the butter and cocoa powder together.
Gradually add powdered sugar and milk, beating until fluffy.
Stir in vanilla and frost your cooled cake.
Enjoy this rich and moist homemade chocolate cake!
